First-and-third defense

First-and-third throw through to 2nd

The defense throws through to second because the runner from third stays anchored and the stealing runner can be tagged.

Starting look Starting spots Start with runners on 1st and 3rd, 1 out, and the defense in its ready spots before the first-and-third to second base.

Coaching point

Take the out at second only when the runner from third is not breaking home.
