Player jobs

Every defender's assignment

Teach the simple version first, then run the steps again until each player can say the job out loud.

P Pitcher

Cover the nearest open base or plate before joining the rundown.

C Catcher

Run the runner only when you have the ball; otherwise fill the plate or next receiver spot.

1B First Base

Close space with the ball or cover first as the safety valve behind the rundown.

2B Second Base

Own second or become the next receiver when the rundown moves through the middle.

SS Shortstop

Get ahead of the runner and keep throws short enough to tag.

3B Third Base

Close the lane near third and receive only when you are ahead of the runner.

LF Left Field

Back up the base the runner is being driven toward.

CF Center Field

Stay centered so an overthrow does not keep rolling.

RF Right Field

Back up the first-base side if the rundown moves that way.
